The cover star of TELOS' autumn edition is here to talk to you about the misinterpretations of homosexuality and gender neutral attire...

Gender neutral attire isn't just wearing bland or plain colours and clothes so it appears as though your gender is obscure; it's about wearing whatever you feel comfortable in and what you believe best represents you as a person; it's clothing which can be separate to gender and sex and not be defined by whether you're male or female.

He's also praising the freedom and opportunities that align with branded clothing; brands such as Fila and Converse are incredibly inclusive, whereby they sell products with an array of different colours and styles which allow for this 'gender neutral attire'.

Burgin accentuates the importance of not prescribing someone's sexuality. He speaks about the fact he's incredibly masculine and yet homosexual too and addresses the danger of stereotypes which label all homosexual males as 'feminine'.

How do we combat fashion issues which perpetuate throughout the world?

One of the major issues surrounding fashion is the excessive amount of clothes people purchase on an annual basis. This means it's never been as pivotal as now to ensure clothes are recycled, reused and repaired rather than just cast aside and chucked away when they tear or rip and if they don't 'look right' anymore then donate them! The benefits of charity shops are never-ending, they aren't places of tarnished and old clothes but rather unconventional and underrated places where beautiful and lavish attire can be purchased to give you the look you wish to create. Of course, products bought from charity shops involve the money you spend on the products being donated to a great cause which brings about change in addition to the environmental impact you're already making by recycling and reusing clothes.

Furthermore, there are still other issues to combat. For example, the advancement in technology means there's an urgency and immediacy which retail industries have coined whereby customers can order clothes online from miles away and within twenty-four hours and sometimes sooner they've arrived at the payee's doorstep. This advancement in technology has devised an abundance in vehicular usage which increases the already high pollution levels which are slowly poisoning the world and this is without considering the multitude of packaging which is utilised for protecting the clothes on the journies across the country they make. Additionally, there are major issues with sustainability and skilled labour exploitation whereby the resources used to produce garments are pollutants which contribute to greenhouse gases and consequentially, global warming. The exploitation of workers involves skilled employees working for a minimal fraction an hour of how much the garment they're producing costs at retail price. Succinctly, the primary fashion issue appears to be the favouring of people and their immediate requirements over the preservation of the earth and the other organisms which live amongst us.
